How I Edit My Product Photos

In today’s screencast tutorial, I’m going to show you exactly how I edit my photos from camera crappy to shop ready.

You’ll soon discover that I use no fancy photo editing equipment or complicated ninja tricks. I like to keep things simple + speedy, so I can actually invest time in the thing I love to do.

Hit play to check out how I transformed the crappy image to the left into the gorgeous stunner at the right.

If you found this vid’ helpful feel free to spread the rumor. I love me so good gossip!

Thanks Kristi. I hope it was helpful :)

i love seeing this inside peek / behind the scenes look! i also love that you use preview. amazing!

  • mayicarles says:

Danielle: So glad it was fun. Hehehehe I use preview yeah. I got PhotoShop for x-mas + still don’t know how to use it. I’m so un-techie-fied!

  • danielle says:

ohhh, giiiiirl! once i get my screencasting thingy installed, ill have to show you some basics, i use photoshop because at art school thats what we learned and its where i feel most comfortable and i know what im doing there so for me its just the easiest, ill have to share some info with you so you can start making the most of your gift!

  • mayicarles says:

Danielle: I can’t waitttttttttttttttt! Wohoooo. Mamma will be so proud that I’m finally gonna be using her gift hehehe, which I did ask for… LOL

  • Angela says:

You are the best example about how we can do our best with just using simple materials. Your work is always so perfect and professional that I would have never thought that you have no idea of how to use Photoshop or any other “professional” photo editing program. That was a pleasant surprise! I’m sure that once you’ll learn your way around Photoshop you’ll create miracles! :-)

Oh wow … now I need to get a Mac! Thanks for this. I really enjoyed it! Oh, and I love your blog!!

  • mayicarles says:

Angela: hehehehehe that’s why I decided to show it, because sometimes we get caught up with the lure of perfectionism + forget that we all have a splendidly ugly + messy behind the scenes were we let no one in. But I figures, heyyyy what they heck, I’ll show people I’m not a fancy pants Photoshop-er hehehe maybe they can relate.

Glad to hear it worked :)

  • mayicarles says:

Marlene: Ohhhhh yessssssss. I’m converted for life :)

    Hi Mayi -

Great tutorial, thanks for making it!

I shared it in the Etsy forums, right here: http://www.etsy.com/teams/7722/business-topics/discuss/8529973/

Hi Mayi! One of the tips you mentioned when giving my shop a quick evaluation, was to brighten up my photos so the colors stood out more. I’m not ready to invest the time or money for photoshop or any other editing software, so have been wondering how I was going to do that.

Now that I’ve seen this screencast, I realize that it’s very likely I have the ability to edit colors in Microsoft Office Picture Manager, which is what I use to crop & re-size my photos. Yay!

  • mayicarles says:

Hey Rin: thanks for sharing! I really appreciate it.

  • mayicarles says:

Ashley: Ohhhh you totally can do it the DIY way. I don’t know much about Microsoft Office Picture Manager but I know about a really cool site online called Picnik that’s entirely free + lets you edit your photos. Check it out! You might love it. Let me know how it goes.

  • Ariane says:
