I Will…

I have lots of things on my bucket list.

I will bake + taste every recipe on my new cupcake recipe book.

I will to throw my BlackBerry down the toilet + get myself an iPhone.

I will never go to bed without telling David how much I love him, even if he steals the remote control to watch Castles in the Sky (a surf DVD) for the 90th time.

I will hire a web wizard once in for all.

I will learn what time zone I’m in, for realz this time.

I will… all these things + more, soon. Any minute now.

Today’s Friday Video Time episode is part confessional, part inspirational. It’s a little bit of ramble + a little bit of motivational ninja. I think you’ll love it, specially the uncensured blooper at the end + the complementary poster I made from my creative heart to yours.

Enjoy + spread the love if you can’t help yourself.

i’m curious

What are some of the things that you’re tired of saying “I will” to? Anything on your wishlist too long overdue? If you’re feeling brave to confess + vent or rant, please know I’m here, with my heart open wide to listen + never judge… well, as long as you don’t make me throw away my Chuncky Monkey ice cream (wink).

Great topic, I often suffer from the ‘I will’s ‘, I found an accountability partner this week and that has really helped me work through my list. I even bit the bullet and booked a hair appointment, that sounds so silly but it is hard to find a place that can cut western hair here!

And I will end the week with a beer – oh look, I already got started on that, Mayi you magic is working already 🙂

  • Lisa says:

I will retweet this. now. maybe later. after I exercise. 🙂

I said for a long time that I was going to exercise and now I am- everyday, I even started my P90x. (I was sooo sore for two days) and it certainly has helped.

My business is a different story.. “I will sit down and brain storm blog post ideas” is my least favorite activity to do. I know it has to be done, and times’ awasting, so how do I push myself?? It’s summer time and all I want to do is go to the water park with the kids, which we ARE going to do- see, I will take the kids to the water park ,hehe,

Thanks for this video, it was fun to watch it!!

  • Carolina says:

OMG, I have so many “wills” in my life. I wil get them out. Really. I promise I will.

  • Meagan says:

Great video Mayi! I loved seeing you & your man together at the end!!

My “I Will” for today, is that I will carve out the time to get clear on the future direction of my business… and stick with it!

  • Kim says:

    Dear Mayi,
Let’s see…I will finish my 2nd licensing deal…I will buy that new professional printer (oops…I did that already!!!) I will hope YOU get that iPhone ’cause then we could talk for reals via FACETIME…I will exercise…oops, I totally did not mean that one…I will take your adorable poster with me everywhere I go!

Thanks for giving me some tactics on how to get more ACTION out of all the dreaming clutter that is clogging up my brain! Wait…where are those oompah lumpah’s??? I will go get me some oompah lumpah’s…I will…I promise!!! Or, maybe I need 20 fingers! Thanks for being an amazing mentor!!!

  • Katie says:

I LOVED this post!!! I have a real issue with over dreaming and not making things happen! I am trying SO incredibly hard to make the things I think about turn into action plans!! Thanks so much for this video! P.S.-I love that your hubby popped in at the end, I was cracking up!

  • Michelle Ainslie says:

I thought it was just me 🙂

    I love this quote:
    “You’re ready now”

    Yup, I’m ready now 🙂
And your adorable poster is printed and has a very special spot right above my desk 🙂
Thank you wonderful, magical Mayi xxx

  • Bee says:

OMG, Mayi you are right on the top of my TO DO LIST, after I just got an important job with Dress for Success (Charity Work), and after I discuss my plan with ISA (May 29th she’s back, YEAH!).

I adore you and I haven’t lost my MOJO, just needed a break. When I read yesterday in Handmade Success “was what I do really necessary in someone’s life?” it kinda of made me take a step back and say ‘no’. The breaks screeched to a halt and made me think “Now What Do I Do”?

That is where I’m at and I’m getting off my A– to work today.

  • francesca says:

  • mayicarles says:

Kim: HAHAHAHAHA you crack me up EVERYTIME my dearest friend. If you find those ump a lumps please let me know where cuz I’ve been looking everything, on labs + clinics + e-bay + amazon + NOTHING… 🙁 so disappointing.

  • mayicarles says:

Katie: Big dreamer here too.. Raising my both hands up high. I think there’s nothing run with bring a dreamer + imagining big + making grand plans. The problem is when we don’t connect those fantasies with our physical world + we keep it all to our heads. That can be very detrimental + ultimately it’s about leaving a legacy + pursuing a life that inspires, so I gotta keep reminding myself… BE A DREAMER AND A DOER 🙂

  • mayicarles says:

Michelle: YES YES YES… you are ready NOW 🙂 Love you my friend. Cannot wait to post you know what hehehe 🙂

  • mayicarles says:

Bee: You go girl! Work it 🙂

  • mayicarles says:

  • mayicarles says:

Nicole: Who me? OH YEAH! Gotta adjust those speakers girl if you like it soft, cuz the volume is always high on the Heartmade HQ 🙂

  • mayicarles says:

Melissa: jajajajaj y ademas entendiste lo que paso al final verdad? jejejeje. Eso es lo que pasa cuando llegas temprano del trabajo LOL. Te quiero amiga. Me encantan tus I WILLS… personal.. professional, it’s all the same 🙂

  • Maria Dimakos says:

Yes, the dreaded “I will,” which is the kissing cousin to “I should.” This is definitely something I have battled with, and continue to battle with. Many times we say that we will do something only because deep down inside we think we should do that thing. Shoulding yourself to death is really deflating and counterproductive, especially for creative people. Feeling compelled to do something, but not doing it may mean that you really don’t want to do it in the first place. It can also simply mean that it’s not a priority for you at the time. Guess what? It’s all perfectly fine. It’s good to accept what you really want to do as opposed to what you think others think you should be doing. Separating your “I wills” between things you truly want to do versus things that you feel should do because of outside influences is the key to diffusing guilt. When you say that you will do something, ask yourself if it’s something you really want to do or if it’s something you feel pressured to do.

  • Haroulla says:

Cutest poster ever, I’m in love with the little pixie shoes! I keep saying I will create, create, create… Well, I’ve have been working on the same 2 paintings for the past 3 weeks which is ridiculous. My plan is to do a set of 6 greeting cards based around confectionery. And I’m still on TWO! how will I ever open my little online store? How will I quit my day job by year end? I need to move!!!

I managed to cut my hand and got stitches a few days ago, so I can’t use it much now, so I’ve been watching all your videos Mayi, from the last page going backwards 🙂 taking in all the advice. So, thank you!

Ps, loved the end with David! Greg is asking if David is in IT too coz he seemed to be holding a hard drive. Lol

  • mayicarles says:

Maria: Que LINDAAAAA! I loved your insight Maria. Gives me a splendid idea pro part II, cuz there IS really a difference between I WILL we mean + I WILL we say to conform. Thanks for your sincerity + open heart + smarty pants inspiration 🙂 You are so dear to me 🙂

  • mayicarles says:

David (Mr. Heartmade): TE AMO INFINITO MI AMOR! Me puse tan feliz de ver tu mensajito. And thank you for letting me put you in the bloopers 🙂 You are my esposito LINDO LINDO 🙂

  • mayicarles says:

Haroulla: HEHEHEHE no he was holding his smart phone + an empty plastic container where my strawberries used to be 🙂

I’m loving your paintings. Keep sending me your finished pieces. They make me hungry + happy 🙂

  • Cupcakes for Clara says:

Beautiful video Mayi! You are such an inspirational superstar! Could we maybe clone you so that we can all have our own teeny tiny Mayi to remind us of the good stuff?!

I will… promise to stop doubting my own creative ability and just get on with it.

I will… read my brothers screenplay tonight because I should have done it on Monday but time ran away from me.

And I will… take the little ones swimming this weekend because they love it and so do I even though I keep putting it off!

    Thanks Mayi xx

  • silvia says:

Mayi, right on spot, perfect timming. Really needed to hear this, even if we all know it by heart already! Oh, what we know to be true, and what we really do… ;P

But here’s a WILL I am really really commited to do: http://patchesofbeing.blogspot.pt/2012/05/fear-wont-hold-me-back.html

    This time no bullshit!

Thanks for your support! Thanks for your wisdom! And your fun way of presenting it!!! 😉

  • Jacolien says:

I haven’t heard this, I didn’t see this video, this video didn’t wake up my conciousness…
    Oh, shoot, it did…
It’s so hard to get into action sometimes!
The thing I’m worst at is getting the house cleaned. Every weekend I’m busy reading blogs and forums online, working on creative stuff. And at the end of the weekend I realise haven’t hardly done anything I promised myself to do in the house…
For me it helps to make to-do-lists. Writing it down helps me realise that I have to do it and takes it out of my thoughts. And ofcourse it’s a great feeling to check-off the things that are done!
But I also put some creative projects on the list, which makes me wanna check those of first…
    Good, I’m stuck… 😉 🙂

  • Eileen says:

Simple and powerful. Thanks for the reminder Mayi! I have a lot of “I WILL”s… My mile long to-do list actually evolves over time and nothing ever gets crossed off! lol

And OMG I absolutely love the end of your video! I had to watch it twice! he he

  • Stephenie Zamora says:

Oh my gosh, we’re totally on the same page!! I just wrote the LONGEST ramble about how I WILL take better care of myself… do my morning pages, meditate, drink a green smoothies, workout, write 750 words, do something creative that’s not work, go to the beach, read something inspiring, etc. 🙂 I even made myself a super cute little check list to make sure I do it all! xo

  • Woolies says:

My list of ‘I Wills’ is very very long. I’m working on them, tiny bit by tiny bit….

  • Hi Mayi, i´m new here, and i want to say that i love what i’ve seen. You’re really a smart and funny girl. I have a question, do you speak spanish, beacuse i read english better than i write it . Thanks for your videos and the poster is already in my board!!
