The Power of Dreaming
I’m so so close now. So close I can almost taste the birthday cupcake frosting. This Sunday I’m officially turning 30 + I’m celebrating it with hubby + family + friends + a big dessert extravanganza.
The sweet party table will be filled with homemade flan + hello dollies + tiramisu + guayaba empanadas + cranberry cookies + lemon merengue pie + granny’s brownies + triple chocolate tower cake + of course I’m baking Red Velvets. I’m already feeling a bit sugar high.
I guess a birthday girl can’t ask for more. Well, maybe she can. I did ask Mr. Heartmade to let me open one of my birthday gifts early. Look, it’s my new favorite pajamas!
Alright so let’s refocus. We were just talking about dreaming last week + today, as promised, I want to help you unleash your dreaming potential.
You see, a lot of us dream but not many of us get to see those dreams turn into reality. The point most of us miss is that achievement comes to those who most want it MORE – Tweet This!
If you are wondering why is your dream not materializing, you really don’t want to miss this episode.
Before you hop out, I want to invite you to use your imagination + splatter the comments with your big T-Rex dreams. Don’t you dare hold back.
Thanks for listening with an open heart + sharing this with who you know needs it most.
xo,
Mayi Carles
PS: Keep on eye on your inbox this Sunday. I’m sending a subscriber-only birthday announcement you don’t want to miss!

Well, I’m a true “sabotager” and blocker of my own dreams, for sure! I always limit myself and I do feel stuck… and it’s hard to get off this turmoil…
At the moment I can also say that I do not know what my dreams are, this is so tough to acknowledge!
But at least your videos make laugh OUT-LOUD!!!!!
Thank you so much Mayi! Have a great weekend!
Well I think laughing is the cure to everything so you are off to a good start my dear Gina.
One thing that would be good to do at this stage is to think about your goals during the weekend, not the week day when you are stress + most likely trying to catch up with stuff. Do it while jogging + while having a romantic dinner + while taking a bubble bath. Give your heart + mind a real chance to run wild. And when you do, remember the 4 blocks, specially Block #1. NEVER DOUBT!
Keep me posted sweetie!
So true! It makes me think of “A dream is a wish your heart makes” from Cinderella. And happy happy birthday to you! I hope you enjoy all of those special goodies on your big day
ABSOLUTELY! I’m a big Walt Disney groupie. Severely influenced. You know my parents took me to Disney World every year when I was little + even as an adult? Even the Alaska trip we did on the Disney Cruise. We live for that magic
Adore you Kim!
This video really got me thinking about what’s keeping me. I have tons of ideas that I want to concretize, but somehow I never find the time/will power/whatever to go ahead, disconnect my brain and just do it. I guess I’m trying to learn to believe in my abilities. Still unsure about everything I’m afraid.
I now have some homework for the weekend (stuffed as it is). I guess I’ll watch your video a couple more times to REALLY plant the idea in my head and stop doubting myself. And do what i like, what I dream to do, even if it’s just for fun. The rest will follow, I’m sure.
Hope you’ll have a wonderful birthday. I turned 30 3 months ago, was a truly happy day! Hope you have such fun as I did! On sunday I’ll be checking my mail. Can’t wait!
I know what it’s like to be afraid to Joana. Don’t feel bad. We all go though it. What’s important is that you get on top of the uniforn (or flying mystical animal of choice, wink LOL).
It might be helpful to write the 4 blocks in a piece of paper + keep them handy so each time you spot yourself doubting or losing focus you COME BACK.
Keep me posted.
And high fives for turning 30! WOHOOOOOO! Happy belated b-day to you.
That’s a good advice. I was watching the video for the second time and thinking… “maybe I should write this down”. Now is mandatory. I believie it will help me get back on track.
Thanks for the congrats. Turning 30 is awesome!
Have a great weekend and PARTY ’till you drop.
Thank you for the much needed kick in the butt today! I’m still laughing about chubby feet!
I’ve been letting doubt and lack of focus creep back into my life. I have so many great ideas and what feels like so little time. I know I’m making excuses. Thanks for making me snap out of it and get back to making my dreams a reality.
Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope you have a great weekend.
HAHAHAHAHA chubby feet. I was one of those babies for sure. I can see the pictures hehehehehe.
Thanks for the laugh + kind b-day wishes. You rock!
My big dream is to make enough $ from my pt race timing job & my handbound books (through etsy, shows, & wholesale) to be able to quit my day job
My main road block is probably having too many interests. I recently had an idea to start a race consulting company (to help first time race directors with planning their first race) with my timing coworkers & when I told my husband about it, he was like, just what you need, another job…. :-/ whoops. So for now, that is getting put aside until I can get rid of the day job & have more time!!!
Focus IS the forth block. What’s important is that you work everyday towards what you want, not sit down + WAIT. There is a slight difference + mind shift there. Work hard everyday towards that big dream. I know you can do it
Happy, HAPPY Birthday!!! You ae totally right, when it comes to living my dreams, I’m my biggest obstacle. I have 4 etsy shops (I know, I know… but I love all of them!!), however one of them has some major issues, and I keep telling my self that I’m going to close it if I can’t figure out why it’s not doing better, but I keep putting it off, it was my first shop… my stubbornness is standing in the way of focusing on the other 3 shops and making the ones showing promise better. I’ve also been talking to myself in circles (if that makes sense) about creating my own web-site/blog… self doubt really does suck, especially when you know it’s something that really does need to be done. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for really hitting the mark this week, and BTW your videos are one of the reasons I look forward to Friday, they are like a ay of sunshine, no matter how my day is going
Fou ETSY SHOPS? This has to be some sort of record!!! WOOWWW you are my new hero hehehehe. What’s your secret?
I think that first shop feels a bit like block #3 – sticking to a goal + dream that no longer makes you grow. Evaluate that a bit more + see if you’re holding unto something? I know I really struggled to put my hair accessories on sabbatical. I had worked so hard to build that boutique, but everything inside me felt burned out. I couldn’t do it anymore, at least not for the time being. Your intuition always knows best. Listen to what it tell you
Mayi,
Happy Birthday, I am so excited for you and your grand celebration this weekend! Your milestone is making me consider where I’m at and where I want to be when I turn 30 (just two years away).
My biggest blocks are #1 and #4: DOUBT + FOCUS. It’s so easy to fall into #1 when there’s a constant stream of ‘perfection’ available online 24 hours a day. I think it’s hard sometimes not to compare myself to others and then loose sight of where it is I’m going, which leads right into #4. You might say it’s a vicious cycle. How do I make it stop?
So far I’ve tried being more disciplined with my time, limiting my media consumption and dedicating time each day to building up my own abilities. I think consistency in these things is what is lacking but as you know new habits are sometimes hard to keep. Any other advice you might have for me would be sincerely appreciated!
Lots of Birthday Love! xO
Well there is no ONE answer but I can tell you what I like to do + what works for me. I’m a little bit of an extremist when it comes to wanting to make changes. I like to see results fast because I would loose a bit of the initial motivation if I don’t. So I always embark on a Kick Start something. A Kick Star Blackout + a Kick Start Detox + a Kick Start Decluttering Weekend. You can pick an entire week to shut down the noise + see what happens. Make a small sprint + radical shift during a 7 day period a let it motivate you above + beyond. I really think that can help! Keep me posted!
This is a SUPER ADVICE Mayi! Thank you for sharing such positive thoughts and ideas
It truly helps!
Mayi, I have goosebumps. In fact, this is the first FVT that I am in tears – those OMG tears. Your timing is magical. Yesterday I had lunch with a friend and said, “You know what, more than anything I want to be an author. I want to be a NY Times bestselling author. And I want to speak at TED.” Today I painted a picture of the birth of a star – ME. Then you come along, with your starry glasses and Twinkle Twinkle little star, talking about MY dreams – NY Times bestseller… TED talks…!!! You were my sign that I’m on the right track my dear, dear friend. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You were my coloured rainbow today. This is my dream and all the other “stuff” doesn’t matter.
I hope you have the most fabulous and wonderful birthday, filled with cupcake dreams and loads of love. You are the best! Love you loads xxx
Go for it, Michelle! You can do it!
Hi Mayi, I love this! I made my biggest dream reality and I became a dreamcoach, where I help people to find their true purpose in life so that they feel completely present and powerful- they know their passion&mission and vision! This is a dream- I love my job! My dreamjob!
Sending you love, Andrea
Ohhhh, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mayi!! You know what’s funny? I DOOO dream of having a vacational rental right in front of a surf spot!! You read my mind…AND — I wrote about my dream of owning vacation rentals while updating my about page just YESTERDAY (after going through Module 1 of Life is Messy Bootcamp). Dreaming is good for the heart and soul. I hope you have a wonderful birthday weekend…!!!
Mayi,
I loved where I was when I turned 30! and I’m loving working on my new company. Your Friday Videos are so motivational, I wouldn’t dare come back to you and say I threw up my hands. I am stubborn and want my own business so that is what I’ll have.
Catch you on ‘THE’ big day!
Fondly,
Bee
Thank you for another great video, Mayi! I’m guilty of block #4, I have too many ideas and having a hard time narrowing them down to just one! I’m glad I can pinpoint the problem so I can solve it. Also, I doubt myself and it’s something I work on everyday. I feel very inspired after watching this, thank you again!
Don’t think I forgot: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! enjoy all the sugary treats!
Once again, so so so inspiring!
It was a sad rainy day here in Quebec…I almost felt a bit depressed by the weather…
BUT THEN!!!! While stuck in traffic, I listened to your video and it gave me so much energy!:)
I confess, I have SOOOOO many ideas blooming in my head, sometimes I don’t know where to start. I really need to work on focusing on one goal, one project, one deadline at the time! And I know that I’ve got to come up with a schedule & stick to it as much as possible…because life is messy…but a mom’s life with a 18 months old, aside from the full time designer job & my Etsy shops…it can sometimes get totally out of control! Haha!
Thanks again Mayi!
For both the inspiration & the kick in the butt!
Wish you the best bday ever! Happy 30th!
xx
Happy almost birthday Mayi! Always stay amazing – you are truly a gift to all of us
Amazing Birthay Mayi, even in late:) thank you for your power my friend ^I think sometimes we must keep dream in deep of our heart to protect them from external alien force. In this way our dream can become more tough and growing^so much love to you Mayi*have an shiny+lovely weekend!
Happy Bday Mayi!!!! Stay beautiful and cheerful as you are now! Love Dominika
About this Friday video I can only say that I always find something what stops me to make my dream comes true but when I finally decide I’m gonna do it then everything’s possible for me! I think all of us have loads of dreams but we have to focus on one big dream! If we don’t know what is our big and the most important dream, we have to talk and talk to someone and we will find out eventually. That’s the first step, to realize where we want to be and then everything is easier. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
Mayi!
Happy Birthday Mayi! Welcome to the fabulous 30′s, I hope your birthday was wonderful. Technically if you lived in Okinawa, Japan you would have been able to celebrate your birthday 2′x { once for the states & once for Japan} hehe <3 technicalities.
I love this video topic.
I agree that the dreams/goals that I had when I was 20 are not the same as the goals I am working on obtaining now. { I am 30}
I have been an artist like you majority of my life. I never wanted to do anything else because I feel like that was God's way of giving me my purpose and passion. In some way I was meant to make a difference in the world with my passion for art. Whenever I get discouraged or out of focus I repeat that to myself and recenter.
I recently became an online business owner and started my company KLDesigns Boutique where I create stationery & paper crafting accessories. I LOVE IT . Thus far it is everything I have ever imagined.
My biggest goal & priority right now is to launch my website and E- store. I would love to have my website done by the end of November.
Your website tips were AMAZING. It helped me clear the clutter to show my amazing work.
Happy Birthday Mayi, enjoy your week!
Kristal
Thanks again Mayi! I totally had to share!
Your Friday video really boosted my energy level! Ha! This weekend, I’ve started (& completed) my baby girl’s 1st ever Halloween costume (pics coming soon on the blog), then I’ve managed to sew 6 items for Etsy custom orders, & just now, I’ve created a new blog post! I can now go to sleep knowing that I’ve accomplished a lot this weekend, especially with a 18 months old almost always sitting on my lap! Haha!
Much love to you!
Happy bday for real!
Can’t wait for the next Friday video!
xx
Loved this video. And your photos look SO fun!!!!
And I have had all those dreams … new york bestseller *yes*, beachhouse *yes* (no surfing husband though), cupcake store *yes* … *laugh*
Now my dream is to
MAKE THE WORLD A MORE CREATIVE PLACE – one button at a time! *laugh*
At least one of my dreams.
I have many dreams. I am a BIG dreamer!!! Always have been. One big dream is to raise my kids well and later travel the world with hubby and we both are entrepreneurs and can work from ANYWHERE! I imagine that would be amazing. Still got a few years left to prepare and talk hubby into it.
Lots of love,
Ursula
Happy Birthday, dear Mayi! I hope it was fantastic and full of cupcakes!
I am soooooooo guilty of block #4 – I am all over the place. I try to keep everything connected over an over-arching theme of handmade, but I do have a lot of dreams that I’m trying to build all at once.
I had a dream of being Etsy’s featured seller – it happened, and now I’m dreaming bigger! I also have big dreams for my blog, and I’m launching a magazine next month, which I have big dreams for, too. I find that I keep reaching for certain dreams, attaining them, and dreaming bigger. The problem is that I don’t know how to put projects on the back-burner, or how to let one rest while I focus on another. I fear that my ideas or dreams won’t happen if I’m not working on them *right now*.
Any way, thanks for posting on this topic – I totally believe in the power of positive thinking, and it goes hand-in-hand with dreaming.
