What Do You Want? I’m Cranky!

โ€ฆ but wait, don’t go!

Ahhh + ahhhโ€ฆ I made you the coolest episode EVER!

I’m even spilling the beans about the epistemology of “Friday Video Time“. Said to be Latin for “It’s Friday + it’s time to watch my video”. And it may or may not have something to do with wanting to break the Cardinal rule of marketing: Don’t do anything important on Fridays because no one cares.

Ahemm, I don’t think so, cuz, like, you are here. YAYY! See I’m not THAT cranky.

Silly Marketing Gods. They’re just so bored playing ping pong in heaven that they make up shiz just to see what happens. Look who’s not falling for it boss? Us.

That aside, today I’ll also be showing you how NOT to screw up your entire business when you’re The Grinch + sick + pissed + PMSing or juicing. Happens.

In the comments I want you to:

  • Literally copy + paste your “thank you” script or “I’m sorry, I can’t” template
  • Tell us what’s the most common question you get asked + the most awesome way to answer it.

And do me a favor will ya’? Click here to tweetย this post to your peeps. Well, only if you liked it, like A LOT (wink).

Alrighty, you know where I’ll be sipping more juice.

ohh my dear Mayi , you read my mind… I was juicing and a little moody today because it is just too cold and I wanted to walk outside… ohh how I miss the humid sticky SUPER HOT weather in Colombia ๐Ÿ™ Thanks again for the fabulous video, you always make me smile ๐Ÿ™‚ going to bed now and tomorrow more green juice for me ! Have a great weekend !!

  • Love this, Mayi! I just hired my first assistant, and part of my task this week is coming up with email templates for common questions, so this was perfect timing!

    My “I’m sorry, I can’t” template:

Thank you so much for fantastic opportunity/offer! I am so grateful and appreciate your reaching out to me. This is something I would be very interested in. Unfortunately the timing isn’t right for me at the moment [INSERT GENUINE REASON – e.g. It would add too much to my plate right now, and that means I wouldn’t be able to take great care of myself, I have family/friends visiting, I’m traveling, I’m launching a program at the same time]. Thank you again, and if this opportunity/offer is still valid at another time, do let me know. As I said, I would be very interested at another time.

    In much gratitude,

    • Mayi Carles says:

Claudia this is GREAT! Just as a point to reflect, I would only add the last part “… and if this opportunity/offer is till valid at another time….” only if you REALLY would like to do this if you (insert current pickle that’s not letting you say yes). When you say that you are indirecting committing your future schedule to this hypothetical opportunity + you just want to make sure you follow through in the end. As a magical + wise person you are I’m sure you had already thought about it, but just wanted to spill it out ๐Ÿ™‚

  • P.S. I’d love feedback on this template as well any feedback on creating templates for common questions for my assistant ๐Ÿ™‚

  • linda says:

I’m all for templates and checklists to make sure I don’t miss out on certain points. Hate it when you send something and then go – Oh crapola… forgot to include… ๐Ÿ˜› Thanks for a lovely friday video time!

    • Mayi Carles says:

Awww I’m so happy you liked it. I worked extra hard on this one + even purchased some new soundtrack music, did you notice? I’m little by little conquering the vlogsphere ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Bee says:

I’m all for making things easy but I’m also all about note writing . . . so my notes are each personalized. You crack me up even when you are juicing and are a little bitchy! I โ™ฅ Mayi!!

    • Mayi Carles says:

What do your personalized notes say Bee? All templates need to be personalized OF COURSE, but I like to have a basic safety format for the times 300 e-mails a day come in + I’m cranky. (i.e. first paragraph: salute + second paragraph: funny fact + joke + third paragraph: say thank you/gracias/you rock). The words all change but the blueprint is there for times of mental constipation.

Or are all of your thank you’s totally totally different? Could you give us a few examples please?

  • Hello Mayi, I have been reading and watching your videos for the last two days. I just found you (thanks to Marcela @thecelebrationgirl and Jackie Rueda who talk wonders about you, no wonder ! ).
I love your happy, crazy, funny, hilarious style and advice, I showed your vlogs to the husband and we were laughing together (in a good way). Thanks for the inspiration.
I don’t have customers yet (working on that, but shhh, secret business will be online soon) so no templates here yet. But, I am going to give you the fail-proof crunchy banana muffin recipe to make you happy, and they are perfect for those bananas abandoned in the fruit bowl, getting black and mushy that no one dares to eat. I think I’m off to make some now.

    • Mayi Carles says:

Love me some Marcela + Jackie Rueda. Need to fly us all somewhere for hugs + cuatro leches ๐Ÿ™‚

Wink wink for an army of customers coming your way. I can feel it! Amanda… sooo sooo nice to meet you. I adore you already!

  • April says:

I seriously don’t know what I’d do without my Friday Video Time! Thank you for jump starting my weekend with goodness every week! This week’s video is fantastic. I laughed so hard…but it’s so true. Having these things in place helps a lot.

The most common question I get asked is, “Can you take a look at my blog and give me some feedback? I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Can you tell me?” I don’t why, but I get this question all the time! What I usually do is take a quick peek, give one pointer, and tell them that a blog critique usually takes me a couple hours and I get requests daily, so I can’t provide them for free. I let them know if I have open consulting sessions. If I don’t, I usually point them to someone who does offer consulting and can provide one-on-one feedback.

    • Mayi Carles says:

Look who it is… my co-super… my partner in crime… my confidence coach. Thanks for making me feel like a rockstar my friend. No juice + no doctor + no book of poems + no inspirational quote could ever do what you have for me. The reason why I’m still making videos is YOU. I will be forever grateful.

I like your approach to your most common question. The fact that you even give a pointer is totally amazing! I’m taking note!

  • Trish says:

You are a hot mess girl!! I can’t imagineyou blahhh! Loved the video & tips!

    • Mayi Carles says:

HAHAHAHA I am. I’m feeling much awesomer now that I’m eating happy solids like bananas + apples + baked plantain hehehe.

  • Yep! that’ my question too! and so glad you answer it in your FAQ’s “Why are you so darn cute?:” Love it! And I’m inspired to get back on the FAQ page of my own… I think it was so BLAH that I removed it from my menu bar. But I can fix that. yes!

A cut and paste from this very morning:
“I am soo so sorry to bother you but I am having a freaking out moment with technology!!
I use {insert fancy pants WordPress theme here} and I just install {insert clever plugin} and now it’s not allowing me to insert images— so I am thinking that the problem started when {fill in the blank} updated.
Do you know what should I do??
Thank you SO much for your help!

Yipes! So, what do I do? I write back with – I’ll pop over and look, send me your login? And I was able to help in 10 minutes, and it does feel really good. But 2 hours later I still haven’t done the 1 thing I was going to do when I originally logged into FB and saw this message. Doing that right now! And tucking this cute little video into the resource part of my brain so that the next time I send an awesome “thank you” note I’ll remember to also hit “save as canned response” in gmail (clever little add on in gmail btw – very clever).

Thanks for your fun & awesome vids. Good luck with the juicing extravaganza! xoxo ~ Loralee

  • Coral says:

I’m not at the stage of needing these templates yet (but hope to be soon, that’s what I’m busting my ‘tooshie’ for). Don’t get FAQ’s yet either – VOQ’s more like it – Very Occassional Questions ๐Ÿ˜‰

I was on the receiving end of one of the most beautiful “No’s” recently though. I will definitely be taking my cue from that. It was kind and encouraging and a gentle let down. I’m hoping I can be as lovely when it’s my time to say no.

Thinking of a cupcake recipe to send you too ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Mayi Carles says:

I’m having delusional dreams about your soon to be received cupcake recipe. Don’t take long hehehehe! Althogh I won’t be able to make it until next weekend I want to do at least 14 straight days of NO SUGAR. Arrrgggg! That makes me cranky! LOL.

And thank you so much for being so understanding + kind back. Some people are really mean when you really can’t do something in their timeframe or terms. It makes me sad. But you make me happy ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I get A LOT of requests to review self-published books.

    I usually reply back with

Thank you for asking me to review your book. However, I’m not reviewing anymore books at the time.

Good luck with your marketing plans, and I wish you the best.

If however, the book catches my eye… or the email request shows they’ve really taken a look at my site and it’s not a mass mailing, I’ll usually respond with…

Thank you for asking me to review your book. However, I’m not reviewing anymore books at the time.

If you’d like to be a featured guest on my site, I’d love to interview you. Please check out my Q&A form here: http://thedabblingmum.com/write4us/donate.htm (most of the time I’ll send them to the direct form, but when in a hurry, I use this standby.)

For those things that are way, way off base, I use this…

Thank you for contacting me regarding ____________. I really appreciate your reaching out to me, but it’s not something I have any interest in at this moment.

I hope you’ll be able to find someone who has the time/desire to take you up on such a wonderful offer.

    Thanks again,

  • claire stone says:

That was your best video yet! I totally don’t have any templates – at all – and yet, I need some! Instantly, I can see how I am going to reduce my typing time by about half just by having some templates – such a clever lady!!
    thank you soooo much!

  • martabsousa says:

I’m sorry Mayi but this was the most hilarious Friday Video Time EVER! I will write my templates but now I’m just feeling in a great mood and I want to dance with my daughter for a while, I bet they will rock, after that little time out.

Oh and guess what? I watched this on wednesday… why? I still can’t figure it out… it’s a first!
    big hug

  • Ursula says:

What a FUN video!!! Love how you make me laugh!
And thanks for such a fun reminder – need to get my FAQ page done!!! You just gave me so much motivation!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Also love the email-template idea. Will do that as well ASAP. Especially as it takes me so long to say “no” to stuff and find the right words. Thank you!

14 days without sugar!? Girl, I am impressed! I would probably just stop existing. ๐Ÿ˜‰
