    Hahaha love the RHCP finale!!

I would say that my number one tips is to stay authentic. In her email, she fears that she won’t speak to her ideal avatar. But staying authentic will AUTOMATICALLY attract the right people!

You don’t want to work with people that don’t like your authenticity anyway, right?

She needs to believe in what she does first! Then people will follow her, naturally!

    • Mayi Carles says:

You are absolute brilliant Geneviève. I could not agree more.

Gotta credit hubby for that finale hahahaha!

    • So spot on! Ever have one of those obvious moments just hit you on the face?
Your reality check just did that for me.
I’m just need to think authentic when reaching out!! THATS SO SIMPLE YET AMAZING!
      Breaks down the walls quickly.

Thank you Genevieve! (love that name btw)

    What a cute dress, Mayi.

I’m definitely of the “stick with the social media that’s fun” camp. I’m also cranky enough to look at most of the sites out there with a skepticism–they’re built to make the founders money, which is *absolutely* great, but… that does mean that in order to get their big payday, they need to convince as many people as possible that we all Must Be On Their Site Because It’s The Next Big Thing and that’s not my idea of a good time, iykwim.

Your tips are fab–I especially liked the one about boosting confidence. Something that’s really helped me is to have a “default” for those times when I’m not sure what to do next. For me, I’ve found archetypes to be really helpful there. There are lots of archetype systems, so you can choose the one that works for you (mine is based on classic Hollywood actresses), and having that default action helps on days when I’m not feeling very creative but do still want to participate in social media.

    You are amazing!

  • Abby says:

Part of my day job is teaching people how to use social media. This is the MOST FUN video I have ever seen on the topic — and I’ve seen a lot! Thank you!

I loved the section on just doing it and not focusing on hypotheticals (“what about A, B, or C?”). I’m so guilty of that, and I think it’s over-analyzing that makes social media (or anything…) paralyzing and scary. Action is empowering, even if it’s just one small step forward each day.

    • Mayi Carles says:

WOOWWW, that totally turned my day around from Hulk to Happy Feet 🙂

Action is so empowering indeed. And it doesn’t have to be anything grand. I always start with the easiest stuff first to give me momentum + confidence. It really gets the snowball going.

    • Action is empowering. LOVE THAT! Thank you!

  • Hmmm… social media tips? That’s a tough one. I find social media at once frustrating, overwhelming, fascinating and addictive. I always feel after diving in and playing for a few hours that there is still so much to be learned. It seems that as with most things in life, the more we do it, the more skilled we become. So I would say, start slow and post things that are simple for you. Try and find ways to interact with others who have similar interests. Favoriting or retweeting someone else’s great tweet shows them that people are paying attention. Don’t listen to the discouraging voices in your head that try to take you down a peg and make you wonder if all your efforts are for naught. I loved the part in your video where you switched from speaking Spanish to singing Give It Away & you said your hubby is intelligent for knowing that song is by the Red Hot Chili Peppers! Awesome!

    • Mayi Carles says:

Alisa, LOVED your insights. So much juice. I specially loved the “frustrating, overwhelming, fascinating and addictive” confession. Guilty as charged of feeling all those contradicting emotions at once hehehe.

      • All this info is so good! Thanks for taking the time out of your day. I agree. Practice makes perfect but going slow + simple is the best plan of attack for me. Def taking this advice!

  • Michelle says:

This is an excellent video with a lot of great tips! Also, the Chili Peppers reminds me of my youth so much! Going to go listen to some awesome 90’s jams right now while I edit some photos…

  • Desiree East says:

OMgeee, cute dress Mayi! As usual, you had me cracking up at the end…what exactly were you and your hubby talking about? LOL.

    • Mayi Carles says:

Hubby was like, “What are you singing crazy hehehe.

I started signing, “Give it away now…”

Hubby: “You should put the RHCP song.”

Me: “Oh so that’s where that song is from. I knew I knew it from somewhere hehehe.”

  • Kagan says:

I’m glad to finally have a chance to watch this week’s video, I missed it this morning!

There were so many great insights here, my favorite were the studio hours, free days and the creation of a “dream team”. Fantastic!

Thank you for the great shot of energy today, I’m addicted to Friday Video Time!

    • Mayi Carles says:

Awwww thanks for stopping by. You’re sweet Kagan + I adore seeing your name pop in the comments ALWAYS 🙂

  • Maddie says:

Hey Mayi! I love all your videos and cute ideas! I too love cupcakes, and last summer I visited Panama!! It was so beautiful there ! It’s so perfect on the islands I visited! Thanks!
(By the way, I LOVE your accent…!)

  • Copy that Captain!!
These action steps will get done in mega a.s.a.p. mode!

AHHHHH!!!! You mentioned my name, I’m star struck. lol. I’ll never wash my eyes again. jejeje
Can I just say…YOU ARE SO AWESOME!!!
I laughed, I cried. I kicked myself at my own stupidity. smh!

As of now, I feel like the old Marbel is done and gone. Totally called me out on my BS!! I needed that hermanita.

Its almost shameful (but I’ll own it) how true these loser thoughts have been stopping me from going big. Little by little I’ve been getting over it but consider them officially washed away!!

The studio hours idea are so sick!!! and I really love the hall of fame. Thats one of those big issues I haven’t been able to get over.
The small bean big world mentality now officially gone. Vamoose!

Thank you soooo much Mayi. From my electric heart to yours, A sincere thank you. You have no idea how much I appreciate you and the way you answered my question has resolved so many doubts.
Viva persistence + confidence + actionable solutions!!

Looking forward to reading all these comments for more advice. So appreciative that other’s have taken the time to pitch in!!!

P.S. Those bloopers were mega funny. You didn’t know it was chili pepers! ROTF! LOVE IT!! MUAKS FOREVER PEQUE!!!
P.P.S. I stalked this page but my dummy cell doesn’t play vimeo. I nearly ran home from the subway. LOL!

  • Marielle says:

This was amazing Mayi, I was brainstorming for a project that I have in mind but feeling a little too scare to do it. While doing this, I remember it was Friday VIdeo Time, so here I’m watching your video, and its like those words of advice were EXACTLY the ones that I needed to hear!!! I even feel this is a sign :)Thanks for taking the time to share this great content Mayi. By the way it was great when your acento panameño comes out at the end, Latinas Rock!!!

  • Shana says:

As always, Mayi, so insightful and so inspiring!

  • I’m a slug with social media. I have only Pinterest (barely) and a blog. My FB page is a cobweb site. I’ve been focusing on my craft and making face-to-face contacts which has landed my dolls in a brick&mortar (half of my income so far) and an upcoming story in a budding national lifestyle magazine (about reuse, recycling, art, craft). I would include that Etsy team involvement is a kind of social media and is very helpful in getting known by other artists and developing community and support. I don’t do cell phones but my shop is online so thanks for the confidence booster to get out there and get it going.

    Hi Mayi,

I’m new to your website and just subscribed to your newsletter. For a more introverted person like me you have a WHOLLOTA energy going on there 😉

I’m also a B-school student as yourself and right now I’m following a course of chris brogan of Mastering the Digital Channel (http://www.chrisbrogan.com/mdc/#) which is vey good and I really reccomend. I guess you, just as I, want to keep learning.

What I do regarding the SM-dilemma is the following: I’ve chosen 3: twitter, google+ and youtube. The advantage of having so many SM channels to choose from is that you can pick the ones YOU like. And the ones YOU like will also be udes by YOUR ideal client avatar. And if some of your ideal client avatars are elsewhere, well, so be it, you just can’t be everywhere all the time (although chris brogan tries to be).

Anyway, loved your tips. My tip is, choose 3 (or less) you like and just rock them. And most importantly, don’t use them to “get yourself out there”, use them to give VALUE. That’s so much more fun 😉

Till next friday! And thnx for this weeks vlog!

    Hi Mayi,
Got some great takeaways from this epidode, thank you – but……..about that dress. WHERE OH WHERE CAN I GET ONE!!!!! I Love all your dresses but this one, I can’t get out of my mind, I’m unproductive. Please put me out my misery Mayi.

    • Mayi Carles says:

Hahahahah you’re so cute. It’s a Diane Von Furstenberg. Would you believe me if I told you I got it 9 years ago at Barnes for my University graduation hehehehe. It might not be in stock yet LOL. But she makes the most amazing clothes so you might be able to find something even prettier 🙂

  • Sarah Woods says:

Nuts! At least I have closure 😉 thank you – I’ll check out her out, might find something just as good. I’m a social media hot mess so I can’t add anything useful in the comments -hehe.

Loved this Friday Video time a lot! i know i am behind a week or so, i have just got back from France with the Fiancé and am playing catch up! i am so glad you made this video about the overwhelming amount of social media. i am just starting out and am so overwhelmed/down right scared f them all and how i will find time to use them all because ‘you have to to be successful’ when as you say, you actually don’t. Its all meant to be fun too so i am letting go of the stressy nasties and sticking to my guns (not actual guns, crikey!)
I also love your outfit! so fresh and summery which is great for this grey rainy day in England! ALSO MAYI…DO NOT put down your accent, its beautiful and exotic and you should love it too! much better than my British one! hehe 🙂

    Hugs and Cupcakes,

p.s. i cannot get the song out of my head! ahhh!! xx

    • Mayi Carles says:

What are you talking about? I freaking LOVEEEEE British accent. You can’t get my song out… I can’t get the word “Harry Potter” out of my mind when I wanna speak like you 🙂 I bet you get that all the time + must be so tired of it. Sorry!

      • Rachel Eliston says:

No I have never heard that before! Haha! I love that! It’s strange how everyone loves everyone else’s accents but not there own! We will have to have a voice chat one day to hear each other! I will just read Harry potter to you! Hehe! Xxx
