My #1 Money Making Tip

A lot of people get stuck on the making-money part of being girl boss. “But, how do you REALLY make a living Mayi?”, they ask.

It’s a good question.

Everything eventually comes back to money, doesn’t it? Well, it’s gotta come from somewhere, right? I wish leprechauns will just sneak into our homes at night while we’re sleeping with large bags of cash. But until then, we gotta bring peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the table legally.

You’ve followed your calling, now what?

The first step to making money is to stop Googling things like, “how to make money.” Not because you shouldn’t want to make money, but because the stuff you’re going to find by doing that is highly likely going to help you lose money.

You wanna know what my #1 money making tip? Hit play!

Focus on surviving.

Get rich slowly, by your own means.

That’s how you build a profitable empire. That’s how you earn the badge of THE BOSS.

Now, I would love to hear your #1 money making tip. Share it in the comments!

  1. AND while building your business you had another great idea that is so different from what you are doing now, start building it too and end with none! Freelance Graphic designer – handcrafter – mother that want to sell super cute baby stuff online… can I merge them all?

    1. I think you can TOTALLY merge. I think the most interesting brands are the ones that collide these rare things that you would have never expected to pair together. Use your knowledge of design to brand a really clever concept and bring all your passions to one table. I’m excited.

  2. Thank you, Mayi for always keeping it REAL!
As a mama, planner fanatic and paint party artist who loves to write pretty letters, I love the idea of using your amazingness to get to where you want to be…and that it’s not some PIE in the sky…you gotta work for that ish! But, hopefully, it will feel awesome! Wishing you Love, Laughter and Peace!

    1. Awww Kyia, all my love back at ya’ girl. And virtual high fives for showing up and bringing your awesome to the world. We really do need more of it. And pie, we can all do with more pie, right?

  3. Good to see you back, Mayi! Great video as always! Thanks for the reminder to stop sweating the details that don’t matter and focus on what does!

  4. I took your End of Boring Course and now in your Messy Bootcamp. I love everything you teach! After your E of B course, I felt like I finally had permission to be myself. (Not sure why permission was needed! 🙂 ) I’m having a hard time because I’m a Pilates/Health/Wellness Coach AND a high school college counselor. They are two separate companies with followings and it’s stressing me a bit trying to keep up with it all. Ideally I’d like to merge the two together, the core messages are the same, but the action steps are so different!

    1. After much pondering I think we think we are seeking permission elsewhere, but if you really REALLY think about it… IT WAS YOU all along. Who clicked the JOIN The End of Boring button? Who paid? Who watched the lessons? Who cried? Who did the homework? All along it was YOU. Deep down you believe in yourself. Sometimes we forget. Welcome BACK! Happy and honored I was the perfect excuse 🙂

  5. Thank you for this video, Mayi! It resonated with how I’ve been feeling lately – build up slowly, go back to work so I can take the pressure off and take time and care to nurture my ideas. This felt like a breath of fresh air amidst all these other messages of ‘find that one thing!’ ‘Hire more people!’ … building slowly feels good and suits my personal rhythm 🙂

    1. I know right? So much pressure to make 50K in our next launch. What the hell? Man if I sell 3 $30 planners a day I’m throwing a one woman dance party. If I fill 200 sits to my next masterclass priced at $79, you better believe I am buying all the organic blueberries I want for life. I like to get rich SLOWWWWWWW-LY!

  6. Welcome back Mayi! Of course, I missed you and your fabulous tips for creative entrepreneurs. Thank you for sharing valuable content. Money tip I would like to share with you and your remarkable team is budget yourself wisely and be familiar with profit and revenue. Super excited to hear more about your new vision of your website.

  7. I’ve missed your videos!!! My tip would be to take stock of what you have before you go out and buy more. I recently went through my photography equipment and realized that if I can’t make use of what I have then I need another line of business. LOL

    1. I missed making them, but truly enjoyed using this time to get recharged + wreck a couple of things to rebuild them BETTER than before. I’m excited to be back. Thanks for being here still. Means the world!

  8. I *did* miss you Mayi! LOVED when you shared this message in The End of Boring and I love it even more now! It’s such a good reminder – it’s all too easy to get caught up in the romance and glamour of running a biz. (Does anyone ACTUALLY live like that? It must get tiring having money fights on yachts ;))

    1. What a great memory Brogan. That’s right… Lessons 7: The Art of Making Money. Of course, I go into much more detail there, but little bit bears repeating (to myself specially) over and over. Thanks for being such an enthusiastic learner. It’s a joy to watch and an honor to be one of your teachers 🙂

  9. I loooovvvveee your videos, you are always soooo funny, and always so right on the advices you give us from your T-rex heart!!! Thanks a lot, as always!!!!
